Travis Toy

Growing up in Midway, Kentucky, Travis Toy was always surrounded by music.  “It was kind of like ‘Daddy played bass, Momma sang tenor.’ “, jokes Toy.  “My mother was a vocalist, and my father played bass, drums, pedal steel, and guitar. I guess you could say playing music has been in my blood from the very beginning.”

Originally interested in drums, Toy eventually drifted to pedal steel on a nudge from his mother. “She was trying to keep a bored 13 year old occupied, so she bet me I couldn’t figure out Dad’s pedal steel.” From there it wasn’t long before Toy was spending countless hours dissecting riffs from his favorite steelers, including Paul Franklin, Tommy White and Bruce Bouton. He eventually honed his skills and developed a style all his own.  At the age of 19 he set out for Nashville and quickly picked up work as a side-man, initially for country artist Bryan White.

Since then Toy’s become a highly sought after session artist, and has been touring with Rascal Flatts since 2004.  During that time he’s performed and/or recorded with country music’s biggest names, including Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow, Josh Turner, Jason Aldean, LeeAnn Womack, Darius Rucker, and many more.  His television appearances include American Idol, The Grand Ole Opry, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, The Grammy Awards, The Country Music Association Awards (CMA), and countless others.
